The Little Rock Founders Lions Club held its first meeting on February 17, 1916, over a year before the organization of the national association. This meeting was held at the Hotel Marion with 39 charter members.

The first service project for the Little Rock Lions Club was later in 1916, when the Lions raised $10,000 to begin combating an unprecedented plague of rats which threatened the health and welfare of the business and commercial districts of the city. A revolving fund of over $100,000 was eventually established resulting in a successful eradication campaign.

Another significant service project began in 1946, when the Little Rock Lions raised $10,000 to lease and equip the original building housing the Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind, now known as Lions World Services for the Blind. In 1947 the Little Rock Lions submitted the project to the Arkansas Lions state convention at Hot Springs, Arkansas, which adopted it as a statewide project.

In 1951 the International Association of Lions Clubs recognized 25 Lions Clubs as “founder” clubs of the association. Representatives from the Little Rock Lions Club attended the convention and received a new charter bearing this designation.

In 1986, the Little Rock Founders Lions again demonstrated its leadership in Arkansas Lionism by sponsoring the establishment of the Arkansas Lions Eye Bank and Lab.

The Little Rock Founders Lions Club is proud to have been a home club for four Lions International presidents and 20 district governors.
